CZE Vážení přátelé, jsem rád, že Vás mohu spolu s Duncanem Hendym již popáté pozvat na filmovou přehlídku Visions of Light, kterou pořádáme ve dnech 9. - 11. 11. 2011 v kině Art.  Naším cílem je stejně jako v minulých letech projekce filmů, jejichž obsahová i formální podoba předstihla dobu svého vzniku, má stálou platnost a jejich tvůrci se přes leckdy původní odmítání stali klasiky a ikonami. Stále se také snažíme, aby se jednalo o filmy, jež nebyly v České republice z nejrůznějších důvodů v minulosti promítány a nebo se tak stalo okrajově, případně před dlouhou dobou. Umělci jako Alfred Hitchcock, Emeric Pressburger, Jack Nicholson, Francis Ford Coppola nebo Marlon Brando nešli ve svých kariérách jednoduchou a běžnou cestou průměru, stejně jako jí nešli členové britské rockové skupiny Radiohead. A tomu odpovídají i filmy, v nichž se objevují. Jsou inteligentní, ojedinělé a fascinující.

Stejně jako v minulých letech máme připraveny ke všem snímkům lektorské úvody a atmosféru přehlídky bude vedle stylového baru a kavárny doplňovat výstava filmových plakátů.

ENG Dear friends, I am glad that I can, along with Duncan Hendy, invite you for the fifth time to the film festival Visions of Light which is held on November 9 – 11, 2011 in Kino Art. Our goal is the same as in previous years; we want to show you films whose content and structure were ahead of their time, still have their relevance, and their creators, often despite initial rejection, became classics and icons. Also, we are still trying to find films that have never been, for many different reasons, screened in the Czech Republic in the past, or either marginally or a very long time ago. Artists such as Alfred Hitchcock, Emeric Pressburger, Jack Nicholson, Francis Ford Coppola or Marlon Brando didn’t follow an easy and ordinary path in their careers, neither have the members from the rock band Radiohead. And the same is true about the films they appear and appeared in. They are intelligent, unique and fascinating.

As in previous years we have prepared introductions for each movie and the atmosphere of the festival will be completed not only by the stylish bar and cafe, but also by an exhibition of film posters.

CZE Vážení filmoví nadšenci, vítejte na stránkách letošního festivalu! Číhají na Vás v přítmí – ztracené duše, zbloudilí samotáři, ztroskotanci, horlivci, zpustlíci a ubozí zbídačenci. Ale ne všichni jsou tak ušláplí životem, někteří z nich jsou vítězi; ti, kteří se poperou se životem a oblafnou smrt. Ať láska vše přemůže ve skvostném Technicoloru, místo toho aby se ponuré černobílé stíny vkrádaly do prázdných ulic a zklamaných nadějí. Neúspěšný herec, který je vyčerpaný, ještě předtím než dostal šanci neuspět; frustrovaný režisér který se zoufale drží fragmentů svého mistrovského díla; cizinec ve městě, který má strach, že bude rozpoznán; cestující, který je vržen do světa zločinu, který nedočkavě prahne právě po světskosti jeho obyčejného života. Všichni procházejí těmito vizemi, jen někteří z nich zazáří jasněji než ostatní.

ENG Hello and welcome dear film enthusiasts to this year’s web pages! There they lurk in the shadows - lost souls; wayfaring loners; underachievers; the overzealous; wasters; and the just-plain impoverished. But not all of them are so downtrodden, some are victorious, those that take on life and cheat death, let love conquer all in glorious Technicolor instead of letting black and white shadows cast their gloomy selves upon empty streets and broken dreams. The failed actor who is washed up before he’s even had a chance to fail; the frustrated director clawing at the broken threads of his masterpiece; the stranger in town fearful of recognition; the passenger catapulted into a world of crime that only yearns for the mundanity of his ordinary life. All people pass through these visions, only some of them shine brighter than others.
